A Week in My Apron

People often ask me, “How do you have time to do all this?”
And the answer is: barely. With vibes. And a timer that’s always going off.

Bread by Blaze isn’t my full-time job - I work a somewhat normal 9 - 5 during the day. And beyond that, I’m also living life: choir practice (alto!), Life Group, the occasional D&D night, updating something around the house, and trying to honor a day of rest weekly. So all the baking? That starts only when orders come in, and happens in the margins - between rehydrating and rising dough... and also myself.

So here’s what my average bake week looks like:

Monday - Reset & Restock

If Sunday was my rest day, Monday is “get my life together” day. I restock the website, go over past orders, update what I can make this week, and answer messages I flagged but forgot to answer (thanks, brain). Occasionally I'll have an order to bake if it's a delivery to a Life Group friend or coworker (thank you muchly to all of y'all <3).

Tuesday - Life Group + Light Prep

Tuesday nights are Life Group, so if I’m baking, it’s for them. Sometimes it’s focaccia. Sometimes naan. Sometimes an experimental loaf I shaped while listening to AJR. Either way, prep is light, or postponed until later that night if I’ve got confirmed orders.

Wednesday - Choir Night

It’s choir night, which means baking is usually off the table (and hopefully so is the cat). I’m an alto, so I’m harmonizing in real time - and probably still thinking about cinnamon rolls. Occasionally I squeeze in prep work if I get home early and have orders to fill by Friday.

Thursday - It's Dough Time

This is my night to start baking for Friday/Saturday pickups. Once I see what’s been ordered, I start prepping batches. Sabre supervises. Music plays. I somehow get flour in my sock.

Friday - Full Bake Mode

This is one of my main baking nights. Orders are in, oven’s hot, vibes are excellent. I batch biscuits, shape loaves, fill trays with focaccia cups, and try to stay organized. If the house smells like honey and yeast and something just beeped, it’s going well.

Saturday - Pickups, Deliveries & Rest Day (Sometimes)

If it’s not my rest day, I’m making deliveries and coordinating pickups - usually with texts like, “Your carbs are ready!” If it is my rest day, I try to rest, go outside, and not open the oven. (No promises.)

Sunday - Rest Day (Sometimes) or Admin Catch-Up

If Saturday was bake-heavy, Sunday is my rest day. If Saturday was my rest day, then I’m back at it: updating listings, reviewing costs, and restocking the site. I also try to carve out time for reflection, laundry, and resisting the urge to launch a new product with zero prep.

The Real Recipe

This little business isn’t full-time but it’s full-hearted. Bread by Blaze happens between everything else I love: my community, my faith, my family, and my offbeat little schedule. Every biscuit, every loaf, every golden-baked roll? It’s made with intention (and also a lot of chaos). I don’t bake unless orders come in - and when they do, I give them my best.

So if you’ve ever wondered when I find time to bake, the answer is: when I know it’s worth it. When it’s for you.

Stay crusty,
- Blaze
