Late Summer Is Weird ☀️

Late summer always feels a little strange. It’s still hot, obviously, that part hasn’t changed at all, but something about it feels different from the beginning of summer. It’s less exciting, less planned, and a little more like you’re just moving through it without thinking too much about what comes next.

The big trips are mostly over, the “start of summer” energy is gone, and everything settles into this in-between space where nothing is really happening, but everything is still going. I’ve noticed my routine shifts a little during this time, and things feel less structured, but not in a relaxing way, just in a “I’ll get to it when I get to it” kind of way. Some days feel productive, some don’t, and most fall somewhere in the middle.

The kitchen feels like that too. I’m still baking, still keeping up with orders, but it’s a little quieter, less of a rush and more of a steady pace. I’m not trying to get ahead as much as I am just keeping things moving, which ends up working out more often than I expect it to.

And honestly, I think that’s what this part of the season is. Not the beginning, not the end, just the middle where everything evens out a little. It’s not as exciting, but it’s not stressful either, it’s just consistent in a way that doesn’t ask too much from you.

I don’t always notice it while it’s happening, but I do notice that things still get done, bread still gets made, and life keeps moving along at its own pace. And for now, that seems to be enough.
